I’ve been in Asia for about a month and 2 weeks now and have been overwhelmed by the culture shock I am experiencing. The modern skyline reminds me that “I’ve a feeling we’re not in [Africa] anymore.”
Especially when we were in Malaysia, I experienced the busyness of modern living and became overwhelmed with anxiety. But more on that later…

Here is a fun and quick little way to summarize Africa:

A- African Chai Tea– This was absolutely delicious! I didn’t really drink until we got to our last country in Africa, Kenya. But then I drank it every day!

B- Boda-Boda– Motorcycle taxis are the best form of transportation through Africa. But shhhhhh…don’t tell my mother!

C- Ch-Ch-Changes– In Africa, we experienced changes constantly. Not only did we switch teams upon arriving to Uganda, but we also were being exposed to different languages for each country and cultural expectations.

D- David Dancing– In Rwanda, God taught me what it meant to “dance like David danced”— unashamed and free in worship and adoration. Every service we attended was filled with so much power in dancing freely.

E- Elephants– On our last day in Kenya and in Africa, our team took a quick pit stop at the David Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino Orphanage. If you didn’t know, African Elephants are my favorite animal! So, this was just a neat little way to say goodbye to Africa.

F- Family– I fell in love with a family in Rwanda and it has been the deepest connection I have made yet. But it also got me thinking a lot more of my own biological family and the way I wanted to love them better.

G- Goat– While visiting an unreached tribe in Africa, some of my teammates killed a goat in order to share the meal with the tribe…I opted to help make the tea over the fire instead

H- Herds– H of cattle, camels, goats, and sheep… instead of seeing people out walking their dogs, we saw plenty of people walking herds of

I- Inner Healing– In Uganda and Kenya was where I was introduced more into the idea of Inner Healing. It has been a hard and long process but am so glad that God has taken me on this journey.

J- Jackfruit– Got to try the largest tree-borne fruit while we were in Africa. It was EVERYWHERE!

K- Kinyarwandan- this was the only language I really made an effort to pick up on during my time in Africa. I still have my notes of the words the kids taught me!

L- Library– One of the first things we did as a new team in Uganda was help make a small rural library for local young girls to have access to.
