Bulgaria was not even on the list of the eleven countries when we signed up for our mission trip. Sometime into our application, Bulgaria replaced India. Personally, the change didn’t matter at all. But, I was eager to see what God had planned for us in this surprise destination.
Team changes occurred the day we arrived in Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. My new team, Strength in Variance, is made up of six beautiful women of God. We have made our home in Ruse, which is about five hours drive on the NE part of the country. My team ministers to: young adults who had been raised without their parents; children born with severe disability; young adults with disability. More ministry to come as we are here until the end of the month.
We live in the residential floor of Friendship Church, which is located in the outskirts of the city. Our ministry contact, Daniela, is the daughter of the senior pastor of the church. Her parents, the church members, and others we had come to know had been treating us with high honor and respect which sounds so ridiculous by itself. The last two days, I’ve been especially reminded of the story of Haman and Mordecai on the sixth chapter of the Book of Esther. God has given us favor in the eyes of Bulgarians, who are treating us so highly. Please read on
Esther 6: 6-9 “When Haman entered, the king asked him, “What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?”
Now Haman thought to himself, “Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?” So he answered the king, “For the man the king delights to honor, have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crest placed on its head. Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to one of the king’s most noble princes. Let them robe the man the king delights to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!”
Thank you for reading, praying and supporting.
