Well after our first 10 days in Mozambique we have now moved on to a new location.
Whilst we had a good time in Incaia, it was admittedly a slightly strange arrival. Our contact is used to teams coming and bringing a materials budget, so when we started finding out about the practical work for us to do it quickly became apparent that there was no money for resources and so we weren’t going to be able to do any of that after all. Furthermore, Antonio didn’t really seem to know anything about the World Race, so Dusty told him all about us and we started working out what we could do.
As I have written, we did find things to do and we did have a good time, but once our squad leaders started to find out about our situation they set out to enquire about it with OM, who had organised the ministry location. It turned out that there were actually two Antonios working for them, not too far from each other and we had inadvertently been put in touch with the wrong one! No bother, but obviously there wasn’t as much for us to do as originally expected, and the other Antonio had now assumed he wasn’t getting a team and so he had nothing planned either.

So OM and AIM both decided that for us to make the most of the rest of the month they would relocate us. So yesterday, after speaking at church, we loaded up our stuff and relocated to an area just outside the city of Maputo. We are staying in a place called Beacon of Hope – a home for a number of boys from local families who are looked after and are able to get an education. We started work this morning – helping with the renovating of the fields from which the ministry grows the food the kids eat.
So off I go, back to work in the heat (it’s slightly cloudy – pray that remains the case), and I will tell you more about the place shortly. I may even get pictures, but no promises x
