Not too far from Jinotepe, the next town along is called Diriamba and based there is a centre called La Quinta. Similar to what we were all doing together last month, that centre takes in street children and helps with their education and so forth. Although our team doesn’t have any work based there this month, one of the other teams from our squad is, so occasionally we see them at Casa Mateo.

The long term vision for Nueva Vida is that it would become a vocational training centre for those in the barrios (neighbourhood), where there is a very high unemployment rate, with the hope that volunteers from the US, or wherever, would commit to spending a year here teaching skills such as computing or cooking or anything marketable.
The missionaries who run the centre and the church live here as well – Bonnie has been here for a number of years now and is Mum to the boys, Katie came here as part of a missions trip a year ago and is now here long term working with the community, and Roxanne visits several times a year to help out where she can.
The grounds also house the church building where members from the barrios come and worship on Sunday mornings, with a mid week service at Casa Mateo and bible studies taking place in the Barrios itself.
We’re doing a number of things again this month and it’s proving to be a nice way to close out the year.
