Hey, Hey,
Hey

My name’s Peter, I’m from England and I’m 23 years old (I’ll turn 24 just before starting the World Race and turn 25 just after getting back – that’s right, my birthday is in August).

I’m currently a student at the University of Portsmouth where I’m just finishing my studies in Psychology.

I’ve kept myself quite busy over the last 3 years here, with my course, getting involved with loads of activities with the Students’ Union, and working for the University marketing department. My studies have informed me loads about people, the brain, social influence and so on, and I’ve had the joy of writing essays, completing reports, giving oral presentations and more (not to mention the joy that is sitting exams). My work has involved telling school pupils about the joys and benefits of going to University, including showing people around the campus and telling them all about everything on offer. And my activities have included break dancing, rock climbing and mountaineering, hosting a radio show, writing for the newspaper, being a representative on my course, helping run the psychology society and helping in the running of a number of councils. Outside that I also love playing the guitar, and have started learning the drums too. That’s not to mention leadership within the University’s Christian Union and my involvement with my local church in various guises. It’s been an amazing couple of years, if a little busy (I even find time to do normal things like films at friends, house parties, weekends away, nights out and so on) but that’s the way I like it. I figure you only live once so make the most out of every day and everything that is on offer to you.

I have a younger sister, Tessa, that everyone calls Tiny (her chosen nickname) because she’s only 5 foot, who just recently got married to my now brother in law, Ian. I tell her that I’m gutted that out of the two of us she got married first but I’m really very happy for them and excited about what God is going to do with them. Tiny works with kids with behavioural difficulties in mainstream schools and Ian works for a local charity, and they have the friendliest little cat called Spider.

My parents are divorced so I try and make sure to spend equal time with both of them when I’m back home. My Mum, Caroline, has since gotten remarried to a guy called Steve and they are both geeks and enjoy things like Sci Fi conventions (love you mum). My dad, Les, is retired and we enjoy going to the pub for a drink and to complete some sodukos together.

I have a load of close friends at home: including Edd, Luke, Esther and Neil and more from my home church; and Aaron, Will, Graham and more from my old school (I’d be here for ages if I tried to name everyone I call friends from these places)

I also have a number of friends from around the country from when I worked for Youth for Christ, and of course, I have loads of mates from University, including Blade, Pancho, Beth, Kat, Charlie, Maxine, Anna, Lauren… I could go on but will leave it there for now 😛

I’m really gonna miss everyone during next year, but hope to keep in touch via the good old internet. I look forward too to all of the new friends that I will make through the world race, both on team and in various locations, and am excited about what God will do in us and with us during our 11 months.
