The first major topic the Lord has been teaching me about is expectations. This couldn’t have come at a better time. So far, not much, if anything at all, has gone as planned. He has been teaching me to drop my expectations, and be open and ready for anything to happen. I may have a good plan to make something happen, but I don’t have infinite knowledge. The way God weaves everybody’s story into one tapestry is so far beyond me and simply put, is a beautiful thing to be apart of every day. So far, things have fallen through, and if they wouldn’t have fallen through, then certain “divine appointments” wouldn’t have happened. So far I have been delightfully surprised by expectations not being met, and then others being blown out of perspective.
This may seem small but a few days ago we went for an adventure to see more of Medellín. A few friends and I made our way to a tram that went up the mountain, so we hopped on to get a good view of the city. We figured the tram would stop at the top of the hill and overlook the city. Little did we know it wouldn’t stop at the top of the hill, but take us deep into the jungle. We were shocked to get to the top of this mountain, and not see the end in sight. With each new hill or valley that came, the tram still went beyond the horizon. When it finally came to the end, we landed in some of the most beautiful nature I have ever seen. This is a beautiful picture and metaphor of what can happen when we drop our expectations of life.
So I challenge you to drop your expectations, and be open and ready for things to change in your everyday life. Because when things change or fall through (because they will), don’t let it get the best of you, but be ready to be delightfully surprised by what the Lord has for you, through a simple twist of fate.
