Hey everyone!
This week of ministry was amazing! We got back from debrief on Tuesday and the men were assigned to Savemart (the gas station a few minutes down the road from us that is actually called Savemor, but the guys like to call Savemart) for the rest of the week to evangelize. Savemart is a pretty small area, so it didn’t seem like there was much we could do being there for multiple hours a day, but we were still excited about it and ready to build some relationships.
On Wednesday we walked around for a little bit until we found some mechanics playing cards in the little shop they have next to the gas station. They were playing a game that none of us had ever seen before, but we now know is a very popular game in Swaziland. They didn’t take much interest in us being there, but did let us watch the game and ask them a few questions. We bought them some apples which they thanked us for, but still we didn’t feel like they were interested in us at all. On Thursday we went back to the same shop and again spent the day watching the mechanics play cards. They talked to us a little more than they did on Wednesday but it still felt like they weren’t super interested in us.
On Friday we went again to Savemart, and this time bought stuff to make Polony sandwiches, which is a lot of Swazis favorite thing to eat. We went out to the shop and made them all sandwiches, which they really appreciated. As we sat and talked to them they started to seem a lot more interested in us and offered to help us learn the card game. Over the next couple hours, we all sat around and took turns learning the rules and strategies of the game while talking and eating with them. It was an awesome day and really encouraged us because they now view us as friends instead of just random people watching them play. We went back on Saturday, and as we walked by the shop they all were excited to see us and called us over to talk to them. I’m really excited to see how our relationships with them grow over the next month and a half and how the Holy Spirit can be working in them!
Thanks for reading!
