For this blog I’m going to tell a story about what happened at Savemor a few days ago!
It was a pretty slow day, and it didn’t look like there was the normal amount of people in the area. We were walking around talking to all the people we know, and it seemed like everyone was asking us for Bibles. We didn’t have any, so we had to tell them that we would work on getting them one. We then had the idea to walk over to Leo’s house (the missionary we go to the prison with) and see if he had any Bibles. We sent over two of the guys and they came back with around 20 small New Testament Bibles and an entire box filled with booklets of the book of John. The moment they came back with these things people started gathering around us asking if they could have a Bible. We handed out all of the Bibles to the people who had asked us for them earlier and to anyone else who wanted them. We then started walking around with stacks of the book of John and handing them out to everyone in the area. It seemed like every time I handed one out, 10 other people would see me and walk over to me asking for one.
After 10 or so minutes, we had passed out around 20 Bibles and 150 John booklets. Everywhere we looked people were carrying one of the two. It also seemed like the whole area really woke up right after this. When we first got there, it didn’t look like there were many people at all, but once we started walking around with Bibles and booklets, there were so many people it felt like they were appearing out of nowhere.
As we were packing things up and getting ready to leave, our favorite Khumbi driver, Happy, ran up to us out of nowhere and gave all of us hugs. We asked him if he was driving anyone and he said he wasn’t, so we all hopped in with him and got a ride back to the base
To top it all off, once we got back to the base, we got to play with all of the kids at the anchor center (the carepoint right next to where we live) for the next couple of hours because it was still pretty early in the afternoon. It was awesome being with the kids and just feeding off of the energy and joy they have.
All of the guys agree that this was probably our best day of ministry so far. What seemed like a slow day where we wouldn’t get to talk to as many people as we normally do quickly turned into a full day of handing out the Word and loving on kids. It’s amazing to see how God can take something that seems mundane at first and turn it into something so beautiful.
