Every year I choose a word and a verse that my year is going to encompass. I spend time leading up to the new year in prayer and searching out what God wants from me. My previous words have been “Joy” “Impossible” “Fearless” and God has used those words to pull me closer to him and show me more of my life purpose.

This year my word is Freedom. It focuses on Freedom from fear, Freedom to speak my faith boldly, and Freedom that is rooted in God’s word. God tells us to be ready to speak to anyone who has questions about our faith, and that comes from knowing the Word of God and boldly sharing what he has done in our life.

The first two months, I spent memorizing the verse that accompanies my word. It’s the small steps we take daily, the little decisions that we make, that builds the life we dream of having.

Psalm 119:41-47 (from memory)

May your unfailing love come to me Lord, your salvation, according to your promise; then I can answer anyone who taunts me for I trust your word. Never take your word of truth from my mouth for I have my hope in your law. I will always obey your law, for ever and ever. I will walk about in freedom for I have sought out your precepts. I will speak of your statutes before kings and not be put to shame because I delight in your commands for I love them.
