“You have $5 per person, per day. There are 2 days left for Launch. Go!”

That was my newest challenge as Team Treasurer. I needed to feed my team of six for two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners with $60 at the hotel before we took off for Australia. Oh, and just to make things a little more fun, we had no access to microwaves.

We hopped in the vans and made our Kroger grocery run with all 25 Treasurers. As I was racing up and down the aisles with a half-baked shopping list in my head, my eyes were immediately drawn to sale signs. $1.88 Mission Tortillas! $1 Kroger Wheat Bread! Into my cart they went. I threw in some bananas with oatmeal for breakfast, deli meat with baby carrots/hummus for lunch, and shredded cheese with baby spinach for dinner. Oh, and we can’t forget about dessert: Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies. At check out, the friendly clerk rang it all up and I made it under budget with $4.01 to spare. Perfecto.

We had fun making quesadillas that night. No microwave? No problem! I set up my ironing board and my handy-dandy iron, placed my quesadilla in between the foil sheets, ironed on “Cotton/Linen” for 5 minutes, and dinner was served.

In comparison to spending $10-15 on one meal in SF, this was amazing that we could make $10 last for six meals, and we proved that it’s possible to live on less.

I’ve arrived safely in Byron Bay, the most eastern point in Australia. We’ve been here for four days now and we’ve partnered up with Youth With A Mission here in Byron Bay. Please pray for our Pancakes in the Park event this Thursday as we strike up some conversations with the locals as well as tourists. Please also pray for one teammate who is still waiting on his Australian visa. Thank you for your prayers!
