Simba takes a look across the African dry lands and then down at his daughter Kiara and as most embarrassing dad would do in our western culture he begins his lesson with a song “We are one you and I. We are like the earth and sky. One family under the sun. All the wisdom to lead, all the courage that you need, you will find when you see we are one.”
I couldn’t help but over look the sea of tents that made up my home for ten days and think to myself “Simba, you know whats up!” The wise words of a cartoon dad, I watched grow from playful child, were now somehow relevant to me. I was the part of the body that wanted to be removed. I hid, I sat alone, all my life I had felt like the weird kid, the loner, I spent a good long time not getting to close to get hurt. I am sure there are people out there that can relate.
