We’ve gotten to see a different side of Bangalore this week. Each evening, Paul David and Paul Israel pull up in their little church van to pick us up. These two brothers are in ministry full time, together with their father who has spent all of his adult life sharing the good news and love of Jesus Christ with people.

Comfort of Jesus Church/Ministries focuses on a specific neighborhood here in Bangalore. Each evening, we’ve been a part of a different aspect of their ministry and have gotten to meet more of the beautiful people who are a part of their community.

Home Visits

Each time the eight or nine of us crowded into BRIGHTLY-painted tiny habitations (some as small as a regular-sized bathroom at home) we’re humbled once again by the warmth and hospitality of the people whose home we just invaded. We’ve gotten to visit the homes of several church members this past week. Getting a glimpse into their lives, seeing where they live, hearing their stories and praying for them, it’s starting to hit me that I’m not in my comfortable bubble of ignorance anymore. These tiny houses, the daily struggle to make a living, alcoholic dads/husbands, the high suicide rates in their neighborhood – this is life.

And yet, these tiny houses remain brightly colored – as bright as the smiles we’ve gotten to see within their walls. Within these same walls, we’ve heard some of the liveliest songs of praise to our Almighty God. And here we are, young Americans with earthly riches these dear people could only dream of and all they ask of us is to PRAY – for the Healer to heal them, for the Provider to provide for them, for the Savior to save their loved ones.

Placing my hands on the head of a feverish child, I am humbled by her faith. I am humbled by her faith that God would display His glory in her life in miraculous ways. I am humbled that she would ask me to intercede on her behalf. I am humbled because of my lack of faith and my failure to bring requests to the Father.  Papa, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
