We left Lima early in the morning for going to the bus terminal. A nice Cruz del Sur bus waited for us: We were served lunch, dinner at breakfast there. We had a blanket, a pillow and every seat was outfitted with a screen. To sum up the bus was well-provided! And this was just awesome for a 40 hours ride! The most outstanding for me: I had a seat in the front on the second floor.

Traveling, traveling, traveling… We arrived shortly after midnight at our Airbnb in Quito. Tired as I was my goal was just to go as soon as possible to bed after a shower.

My team leader scheduled to do a Sabbath which means rest day. This felt so good after the long travel day. I had to get different things done: organize all the pictures from Peru, write a blog post, do the laundry, find a place to go grocery shopping. After that I could call my dear friend Rebekka from home for the first time – it felt so good to talk to her! Later on, I spontaneously called one of my brothers. This time was splendid as well. And last but not least going to bed early – because I’m not a good bus sleeper – was what my body needed.

Jean is a friend of Sara, our Airbnb owner. She connected us with him because he is the son of the Computer Word School director and we were looking for a ministry for our short time in Ecuador. We were so thankful God provided this perfect match for us! So this day we stood up at 5 am, ate something little, had a short team prayer time and went to the school as volunteers. We had almost an hour drive to go there. The school is a Christian Bilingual Private School with kindergarten, primary school, middle school and highschool classes – so pretty big where a lot of different age students come together!

This is how a day in the school looked like:

7.10 – 7.30 am           All teachers gather in a room for a morning devotional

7.30 – 9.00 am           Assisting teachers in their classes

9.00 am – 0.00           Eating breakfast

9.40 – 12.00 am         Assisting teachers in their classes

12.00 am – 0.0           Eating lunch

12.40 – 14.00 pm       Assisting teachers in their classes

I was with teacher Betzabé in two different 5thgrade English and Science classes. Most of the children spoke English really good considering the facts that they are around 10 years old and it’s their second language!

On Saturday, we went to the historic centre in Quito and enjoyed time as a team. Because the whole squad was together in Lima, it felt so good to just be with the team and spend more time with them.

Monday was a holiday in Ecuador. So Frieda, Sarah and I decided to spent our days off in Banos, a beautiful city in midst of nature attractions 5 hours bus ride south from Quito. It was a blast to see the picturesque nature and to spend abundant quality time with these two lovely teammates.

We worked at the school again these days. At the end of the devotional of our last day at the school, the teachers prayed for us and hugged us goodbye. To feel their sincere love after this short time together was amazing! When the school was finished on the 11thour team got interviewed by Jean for a promoting video to come volunteer at Computer World School.

We left beautiful Quito this Friday morning. We had to take a bus to city Tulcan near the border. At Tulcan we got into a van with all our bigpacks and daypacks. The van drove us to the migration where we got the exit stamp for Ecuador and the entry stamp for Colombia. After spending 3 hours at the border, including eating dinner, we got back into the van which drove us to Ipiales, the closest city near the Colombia border. We took a bus again from Ipiales straight to Medellin. It was almost e 30 hours busride. The driver drove crazy. We could feel every bouncing because of the bad suspension of the bus. I got at least some sleep and was glad when we could got out of the bus. Thanks God for getting us safely to Medellin – the second biggest city (2,4 million inhabitants) after the capital city Bogota in Colombia.

You will hear from me soon about our ministry we are doing here!

Love, Fabienne
