It was the beginning of summer and I had been sitting in my room thinking, “what’s next?” That question can be scary at times but for me I really began to ask God, “what is next for me?” In that moment I was reminded about the World Race. A couple years ago, my friend told me about the world race gap year at the time I was amazed and ended up following world race on Instagram. I didn’t think much of it at the time but — 2 years later in my bedroom I began to think about the possibility of me going on the world race. As I was looking through the website & YouTube videos, I thought to myself “just do it!” There I was, in my next steps as I knew it and filled out an application.
Here I am now, writing this blog that I was avoiding for so long. My pastor always says “when you write things down, it becomes real” and I think I avoided this blog so much because the world race would suddenly become real. I am extremely adventure-driven and have so much wonder within me about this world… why would I push it away? Because it’s uncomfortable. There is much uncertainty that it becomes uncomfortable. A lot of times I want to write down/journal how I’m feeling but I’m the queen of avoiding my feelings… Its a work in progress, people. (I’m an enneagram 7 BTW!) So, after giving myself a few pep talks I finally wrote this blog post. I know the world race might become uncomfortable at times but I also know that it will be one of the adventures I will always talk about and learn from. What I know for sure 100% is that God wants me there!
In James 1:22 ESV, it says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” I want to be a doer of his word — his mission. With that being said, I’ll be in Costa Rica in July 2020 for a month serving with the World Race! I will be doing outreach at the local villages helping the surfing community and also with improvement projects around the base. Although it seems far away, it will be here before we know it! I’m expectant for all that God has for me, the team & Costa Rica.
