Last month in Mozambique, my contact, Jason, Cory and I were talking about the solar panels they had on their farm that ran the fish tanks and the power they received from those solar panels. From that conversation, I mentioned to Jason that in high school for a science fair project, I had built a solar cooker and it actually worked to cook food and boil water. It was an amazing project and I learned a lot from it.

From that conversation, Jason mentioned that the workers who lived at the farm had no electricity and the rooms they lived in had no light because of that. Jason mentioned that he had wanted to make a way for them to have light in their rooms, because with the building being completely concrete with no windows, it was pitch black, even during the day, with no light in there. Jason mentioned to Cory and I about building solar lights for them to have to light there room. Immediate excitement overtook Cory and me. We went back to our house that evening, and for me, I thought a lot about making these things come together so these workers could have light in their rooms.

A week later, Jason told us to be at his house a little earlier than normal, and we would begin making the solar lights. So we came over and began constructing the solar lights.

To contruct the lights, first we had to take metal roofing and cut in in to squares. After we cut the metal in to squares, we had to cut a hole in the middle of it a little smaller in circumfrence than a 2 liter coke bottle. From there, we peeled some of the metal back, so then the next step was to take a two liter Coke bottle and make sure the folded metal pieces held the bottle tightly. Then we sealed it so no rain could leak through. Then, fill the Coke bottles with water and bleach and then we were ready to install them.

After we had finished making the solar lights, we went over to the farm to install them. When we got there, we had to cut a hole in the roof of the room for the Coke bottle to slide down in to the room. Then we put the coke bottle through the roof, and then with the metal piece attached to the Coke bottle, we sealed it with the roof so no leaking would get in. And here are the pictures of the before and after results of the solar lights. Its so cool when Father allows you to bring physical light to the world while bringing Spiritual light as well. Oh, how He is big!
