As we walked back from town where we bought ice cream and soda and just hung out with some of the locals, the conversation of what we thought our gifts would be for the team this year. It was a good question. Allison and I began talking about it, and I squeaked out a ” God is calling me to physically heal people this year. I want this to be a year where God makes full use of the gift of the Holy Spirit in my life. I want people to feel Him, I want Him to be worshipped because people who have never been able to walk are running, because people who could never see, can see things miles away, because people who have no option but to die from cancer because of no meds are diagnosed as healed miraculously. I want people to so see and feel the Holy Spirit that they fall down and cry and just worship this amazing creator who uses people as His first option of saving those who are lost. I want door to door evangelism to die off because I want the evangelistic tool of healing and prophecy to be so present in the world, there is no need to “convince” people to follow Jesus, but because they have no choice because His love is so felt. I want that in the entire world. I want that in Boston when I plant churches!”
We had finished our long walk back to the church, and sat on the step outside the church, watched the trucks and buses fly by, talking about the amazing things we want to see God do, and how we usher in His presence to do such things. We talked for hours, about how we as Christians have been given so many gifts that we can use through the laying on of hands. God has given us control of these gifts through the Holy Spirit, and we can use all of them! Ephesians says that God predestined us to do great things through His lavish gift giving of His Son on the cross. We talked about how scary the first step of owning the power of the Holy Spirit. About what the faith looks like to get up and pray for a woman to be raised from the dead a few days ago and nothing happening. We talked about how we need to see and believe ourselves as the sons and daughters of Christ Jesus who can do all things through Him.
…Then God was like okay, you want to see all these things. Lets test it. Just before dinner, Allison and I, who had to go back to Quito to get Allison’s passport, we were informed that there were no more bus tickets on the charter bus. In set a mini panic mode. We quickly came up with a backup plan, which was to take a city bus 9 hours back to Quito. Now for anyone who doesnt know, a city bus is super sketch. Even Narcisa, our host, said it was super sketch and kept warning us about it. She told us to pack only the things we absolutely needed and lets our team bring the rest on the safe bus. So we got on a city bus, which people get off and on all the time, so its just not prime, but we got on and I immediately heard God saying, “You have the faith to use the gifts I give you control over, but do you have faith that I will protect, in a situation where you have no control?” I looked at Allison and we laughed, knowing our dangerous prayers were just answered, but God gave us amazing peace and protection throughout the night, and even on the cab ride to our house, all by my small broken Spanglish. Good Spanglish I must say though.
Narcisa, our host mom. This lady was amazing and took such good care of us. We couldnt help but give her some Christian sugar.
But I truly believe that this was the final test before God unleashes His power through supernatural healings. I know praying over the dead woman to be raised with no results was a test of faith, but we as a team are owning the power of the Holy Spirit. We are going to be a part of the new wave of evangelism that is healings. And lets not just make this everywhere but America! America needs this more than most. Lets do this!
