Social media is the biggest way to communicate, network, and share in the world today. Everything really is at your fingertip nowadays. So ideally Christianity would be one of these things. But is it promoting what God wants or something else? Is it representing a truth in the word of God? Or maybe its a seemingly accepting way to straddle the fence of things we want to accept over things we don’t.
Leaving my chair from being online never really left me feeling positive or satisfied for my life. It always seemed to leave me with wanting more from the world. What was seen to me was nothing but negativity and complaints from ungrateful hearts. Realizing that I was one of them, I got out for about two years of my life.
I have since returned to one form of social media; Instagram. I love it honestly. So much less drama than the others, no real room for complaints or negativity. It’s peoples lives shown through pictures. Their passions, work, inspiration, family and even their dinner! (GUILTY) Most important though is peoples faith. Posts are made daily saying “God Loves Me”, “Only God can Judge Me”, and “Saved by Faith”. So what is wrong with that? Well if the next post is you drunk, doing drugs or a meme that uses the “f” word like a comma, what does that say about being a Christian? How is it we as a nation founded on Christianity have gotten so far off track? When did just saying you believe in God and that Jesus died on the cross become enough to get salvation? Why do we put more faith into our fish bumper stickers than into the bible?
Having faith and living by faith are very different things. Instead of following the narrow path that leads to salvation we have just brought what part of God we deemed comfortable to the broad path which leads to destruction. We focus on the grace of God much more than the wrath of God. If one knows love, they must also know hate. He loves which that is holy and glorifies Him but also hates all things that are not. These things will have no place in His kingdom. So we cannot promote God and that which He hates at the same time. What is the answer to when many are asked what they think of Christians today; “hypocrites”.
Change happens in a moment. So when you give your life to Christ it is forever different. Your heart will constantly seek Him and you will strive to truly LIVE by faith. This is what dying to yourself means. Do not live for this world or walk by its false judgement. Christians need to represent Jesus in everything that we do. No longer can we judge our level of faith compared to another mans. God is the only one who can and will judge our faith. This valuable truth is how WE NEED to start living.
Matthew 7: 18-21 writes: A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
