“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders”.

You probably recognize that from the song “Oceans” by Hillsong.  It was kind of a big deal for a while.  I love this song, and for the past 2 or 3 years (or however long it has been since it was released) it has been an easy go to worship song.  One that has allowed me to dive deep into worship.

Sitting here in a high schools bible period they played the video for this song, and I was quickly in worship… alright, back up to this morning.

This morning I started the day by watching an amazing message by Pastor Judah Smith from Catalyst West.  It is one of my favorite messages ever given.  The band that opened for him that night… Hillsong.  Cool, fast forward to today.

So I’m sitting and worshiping in this schools chapel time, and I remember back to worshiping at Catalyst over a year ago.  On that same day I originally saw that Judah Smith message live, for the first time.  I remember Hillsong, and Taya Smith (#wcw) leading us in the song “Oceans”.  During that famous bridge where they sing:

“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever you would called me.  Take me deeper than my feet could ever wonder, and my faith will be made stronger, in the presence of my Savior”.

I remember praying, and crying out to God to use me.  That I desired that level of trust, and that level of God given purpose that this amazingly powerful prayer of a song describes.  Now back to today.

As I reflected on that prayer from over a year ago, mid worship to the same song today, I notice that God has answered that prayer in a huge way!  I prayed to God for a deeper purpose, and he gave me a calling to serve others in his name overseas for at least a year.  In that same prayer I prayed for trust that is “without borders”. I don’t know if they were meaning national borders or more of a symbolic border, but either way God is building that trust!

Reflecting on this year that God has ordained for each and every one of us, it is so clear how it screams of his pursuit of our trust.  He placed us away from home with 40 complete strangers.  He led our leaders in making our teams of six.  The six people that we would do life with for months at a time.  Living together, eating together, serving together, and at times having “constructive” feedback together.  We didn’t chose our teams, God did.  All of this is so conducive for building a stronger faith, and stronger trust in God.

When you pray to God for patience he doesn’t usually just bless you with endless patience overnight.  Instead, he gives you opportunities to become more patient.  It is tough, but it is how we grow.  Likewise, if you pray to God for trust, he gives you an opportunity to step into a place where you are forced to trust him.  On my own, I would have given up long ago on this journey.  It is due to the relentless love of God, and the friends that I have made along the way that this is where I am.

So, if you are ready, ask God for more trust!  However, be prepared!  He might just send you around the world to collect it!
