Training Camp
Training camp was awesome. I loved meeting all my squad mates from all over the country and getting to know them. It was super encouraging and uplifting to be in an environment solely focused on God and what he is doing in my life and the lives of my squadmates.
Camp was fun and lighthearted at times and also heavy and exhausting. We camped out in the forest in Georgia which was cool (except for the spiders, which seemed to like the inside of my tent very much). We ate foods from all around the world, some better than others but most very enjoyable. We also had amazing speakers who taught us what it really means to be a follower of God and what that choice can do in our lives and the lives of others. I think I learned more about God and his character in that week than I had going to church my whole life. Everyone had amazing and thoughtful questions and I came out of training camp very full and excited about what God is going to do in our lives over the next year.
Lastly, we got to find out who our teams will be. Each team is a group of six people who we will do ministry closely with for the first few months overseas. I love my teammates and I am super stoked to get to know them more personally as we embark on this journey together. We are all very different and we care about each other. We are dedicated to helping one another along in our personal journey with God and growing the kingdom of God along with it.
Our team name is team M.O.M which started as a joke. To find our teams we were all given a piece of paper with an action but we had to close our eyes. Ours was to act like we were looking for our mom. We tried to come up with other names but in the end we decided on mom as an acronym for Moving On a Mission. We thought that this name was light hearted and fun but also gets the point across for what we will be doing over the next year. Overall I couldn’t ask for a better team and I’m excited to see what’s to come for us.
