Adios Estados Unidos, Hola Peru!
I can’t even believe it; the World Race has officially begun! A few days ago, I flew from Minneapolis to Atlanta for launch. Seeing my squad again was so wonderful, and we got to meet our alumni team leader, Steph, in person. After a few days of more specific training, we flew out to Peru. Our flight was early in the morning, so we had to leave our hotel at 2:30am. A few of us (myself included) decided it was better to just stay up until then instead of trying to get like 2-3 hours of sleep and just being groggy all day. Turns out it was actually a good idea. I did manage to get about an hour of sleep during our 9 hour layover at Fort Lauderdale, but for the most part I was fine. Some people just slept the entire time. We left there around 6 and arrived in Lima around 10. Got through customs with no hassle, then had to say goodbye to the rest of our squad when we split up into our teams to head different ways. Landry, one of our squad leaders, gets to travel with our team for a few weeks. We spent the night in a hostel run by two wonderful guys named Martin and Sergio. We woke up at 8 and took an Uber to our bus station where we are currently preparing for a long bus ride to Huaraz, where we will begin our ministry with Wycliffe!
I still can’t believe this is actually happening! As I was saying goodbye to everyone at home, I didn’t really feel like I was saying goodbye, like it hadn’t quite hit me yet. The last few days, I have just been reflecting on how much God has blessed me with the community I am a part of. The night before leaving, we had some friends come over for some prayer and worship, and I was just struck by the amazing amount of love and support people have shown me through this journey already. I raised a large amount of money very quickly, and the amount of people that have told me they will be praying for me is overwhelming. Thank you Lord for all of the people you have put in my life to bless me on my journey! And thanks to all of you for supporting me. I hope you all continue to follow my journey as it unfolds! Make sure to subscribe to my blog if you haven’t already!
Much love,
Ethan
