This update will be brief.
Description:
Our host here is awesome. The contacts we have made so far seem to really like us and always want to hang out with us and talk to us and plan to do things with us every day. But we just have to make sure we are intentional about sharing Jesus and not just “hanging out”. One of the guys who has been hanging out with us may or may not have gotten saved a few days ago.
Sombor, Serbia is a very interesting place. People here are typically a little more cold and distant. like just picture a really awkward confrontation where it is really hard to break the ice… and that is most people here in Sombor. Most people we encounter in the streets don’t know English, and there is some bitterness towards America because of politics. But fortunately we aren’t here to discuss politics. The ideology of God here is very dominant, but it is split into two primary categories. The Orthodox church, and the Catholic church. But here is a typical conversation.
“Hey do you believe in God?” – “yes I’m orthodox”- “oh so you have a relationship with Jesus?” – “uhhhhh”.
So everyone ‘believes in God’ here because of their family and the culture. But it seems that not many people actually have a relationship with Jesus. Kind of like living in the South Georgia Bible belt where I am from. “yeah I’m a Christian, I go to church”, but you have never personally received Jesus as your savior and put your faith in Him through your heart.
So if you are reading this right now and it resonates with you, maybe you needed to read that ^? (Holler at me on the DM for further conversations on it).
Prayer requests: That people would be open to the Gospel and actually receive it, and not just categorize God with the idea of ‘catholic church’, or ‘orthodox church’. That God would open up doors for us. Our host explained that ministry here is hard, it’s like taking 3 steps forward then 2 steps back. So pray just that revival happens here. I don’t want to make that sound like “just revival”. But foreal, pray that revival happens here. People are bitter because of war, because of politics, because of God. They just need a Holy Spirit revival where people come to Christ here and live out their faith. There is such a lack of joy here, it is depressing (spiritually speaking).
