I did it! I packed a 50 liter backpack with a tent, sleeping bag, chacos (EW!), a very small wardrobe, and a years worth of doxycycline among other things. I kept it at 40 pounds! We will see how long that lasts:) I said goodbye to my family and boarded a plane to Washington D.C. I’m in a hotel now with two hundred plus young adults like myself ready to embark on the World Race. It’s all very surreal and part of me cannot believe I’m actually here.

Our first destination will be Quito, Ecuador. My amazing team of 7 will be serving alongside the staff of an organization called Centro Opcion de Vida. Aiding young boys from off the street. I’ll be able to share more details once we are in action this next week. Here’s a description from the website:

“Opción de Vida is a ministry for street boys supported by both the Ecuadorian government and the El Batan Alliance Church in Quito…Opción de Vida  is a place where at risk kids can come five days a week to get a hot shower, clothing, food, and hear about the Lord. Our hope is that through our friendship the people currently and formerly living on the streets will receive help with their immediate situation, but more importantly, come to know Jesus, who promises to meet all of our needs.”

It’s been so good to be reunited with my team and squad. I have an amazing group that I’m sharing this year with and feel so blessed to learn from them and grow as a person.

We leave this Friday. One of my team members shared this passage with us last night, it was so fitting. Joshua 1:3,5,9

“I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses… No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you… Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Those words are such a comforting reminder that the Lord is before me, that my strength is found just by trusting His.

Thank you for following my journey!
