This past weekend was great! It had been a very long week of ministry, lots of playing with kids, painting, cooking, and cleaning. So for our off day Melissa, Melanie, Thomas and I decided to go to Mindo. Mindo is a small tourist village about two hours north of Quito. There are all sorts of activities to do there like zip lining, horse back riding, rafting, hiking, etc.
We were dropped off at the top of a hill next to a sign pointing in the direction of MindoOnce we arrived we stopped at an information center and decided to take the same “taxi” up the hill to go on something called a Tarabita and take a hike in the jungle to some waterfalls. A Tarabita is like a zip line except with a cage that can sit about four people We traveled from one mountain to the next soaring thousands of feet above the jungle below us, it was scary, but beautiful.
On the other side we took a mile or so hike down the mountain to the waterfalls. I’ve never hiked through a jungle. The only wild life I saw was a centipede and a butterfly (butterflies have special meaning to me). But, it did sound like the jungle, or at least how I always thought one would sound.
We flew back to the other mountain and then had a delicious meal at an authentic Ecuadorian restaurant before catching the last bus ride home.
It was the best first day off I could have imagined.
