Dear Supporters,

As my time in Cambodia is almost to an end, I wanted to share with you a little bit of what has been going on this past week.

Over a week ago, I continued having a terrible stomach ache. It would come and go but got to the point where I couldn’t take it. So, I finally went to the doctor on Tuesday, October 25th. Three hours later, I was in Phnom Penh being admitted into the Royal Phnom Penh hospital for an abdominal obstruction. An abdominal obstruction creates a blockage within the intestines that enables the digestive system to function properly. Basically, things get caught up and I am unable to digest anything. The same thing happened to me once before when I was in high school so I was thankful I knew my body well enough to know what was going on. Trust me, it’s not fun. This is the nicest hospital in the country (looks like an American hospital) and thankfully, most of the doctors and nurses speak English. I was a little weary and skeptical but trusted I would be in decent hands.

On Wednesday, October 26th, after no further progress, the doctors highly recommended emergency surgery to remove the blockage. I was scared for many reasons. The main one being I was in a third world country about to have surgery. That said, it such a huge blessing I was not alone. Four amazing members of my squad were there praying over me and seeking peace on what to do. We tried looking into different options– one possibility was to try to get to Thailand for the surgery but everything would have taken too long. I had no other options and still did not feel comfortable about letting these doctors operate. So, we started praying. For almost an hour. I finally heard the Lord say to me, “have the surgery here”. I voiced it to the rest of the crew and everyone was on the same page. I was instantly at peace and knew I would be safe. So, after many many thought and prayers I was taken into emergency surgery to remove the blockage. Later, I then found out this was actually a Thai hospital! How crazy!

It’s been five days since surgery and I am recovering well. I experienced so many challenges this past week but also so much of God’s goodness. The details He orchestrated together to make me more comfortable has been unreal. He knew this was going to happen. I am in awe at His work and it never gets old.

I’m still processing the fact that I just had surgery in a foreign country but it goes without saying, my squad has been absolutely amazing and not once have I been alone. They have been my communicators. My support system. My insurance adjusters. Shoulders to cry on and so much more.

My first month of The Race is not what I had intended and that’s ok. At the end of the day, I am in high spirits and the Lord is still faithful. This month was still good. The ministry was still good. And God is still good.

I would like to ask all of you to join my prayer team and pray for a smooth recovery. Also pray for peace for my family as they are not able to be here with me.

I’m not sure what the next month will look like but you will receive updates!

Love y’all,
Erinn
