Ian Schumann, one of my squad mates wrote an interesting piece over Christmas that he shared with all of us that really impressed me. Ian confronts a lot of the issues that I have encountered with life as far as wanting more from every day and really trying to understand and grasp the depth of this human desire to make a lasting impression and live a life of legacy, or an epic life as he calls it. Dovetailing with this concept, Ian talks about coming to the realization that this World Race journey and the stuff that we do every day here on the race seem epic and more grand perhaps than they actually are because what the rest of the world sees is just our pictures and videos which are beautiful and set to music and just seem great. But in reality we are living life and even though it is a temptation to glamorize what happens on the mission field and in other countries it must be understood that God’s calling is for everyone and is everywhere and the life that we are looking for in the depths of our souls is not to be found in a particular place or situation but rather in realizing our place in the Kingdom. The World Race is a wonderful program and it is doing great things but it is not the answer to that longing. Only the Lord, the Great Revealer, holds those answers.
