Alan is one of the street kids that was a frequent face at
our services this past week. Alan is twelve years old and has been living on
the streets for three years. He ran away from home when he was nine because of
an abusive situation. In the middle of the week Alan was in a fight and was cut
badly on his palm with a knife. When Marisa, one of the women on team Judah
noticed this she got Jess, my team leader who has nursing training to clean it
and care for it. Alan became part of our group’s special ministry and people
helped him get a bath and wash his clothes in the river. Marisa was talking
with one of the Kenyan men named Meshach that was helping out at the conference
doing some translating and she mentioned that what Alan needed more than a bath
or clean clothes was a father. Meshach decided then to take Alan home with him
to live with him and his mother. Meshach knows that being a father figure to
Alan is not going to be easy by any means but he is willing to invest his life
into the life of this young man in hopes that he will have a better future
knowing and understanding love.
Watching this situation unfold has been an answer to prayer
for our team. We have seen an attitude change in Alan as we took him off the
streets and saw him with food in his belly and no longer high on glue. Alan’s
story isn’t over and there will no doubt be bumps in the road along the way.
Our prayer is that Alan does not return to the streets but grows and matures
into a man after God’s heart.
