Day 2: “we will wear our lab coats today so you can recognize us”

Apparently that nice “doctor” who checked on me during night 1 was not an employee and nobody really knew who he was. You see at the clinics here nobody wears uniforms or name tags so anybody could Ne a health care worker. However I’m quite certain the Ugandans have some innate ability to tell medical staff from commoners.

Now I have malaria, the main symptoms of which are vomiting and diarrhea. Midway through my 4 hour IV treatment I got very nauseous and needed to vomit. However there is no electricity. They said they would get me a light. I’m thinking a flashlight, maybe a lantern. I’m not that lucky.

The nurse emerged from the supply  closet holding 2 lit candles. She took the wax and melted both candles onto the toilet tank. As I pikes into the toilet that didn’t flush (no running water at the clinic either) I was more concerned with catching my head on fire than anything else.

Oh gosh and theres still 2 more days.
