God has been so faithful in my attempts to raise support and funds. My mom was kind enough to put together a garage sale. The skeptics said, “you will never raise a lot of money doing that.” To them, I responded, “you don’t know my mother.” I hope they are now eating their words as my church community, in a two day yard sale raised almost $4,000!!!!!!! There were tables of items (or trash dependant upon your vantage point) as far as the eye could see. The entire church parking lot was full of couches, tables, book cases, painting, books, and most importantly, treasure hungry garage sale seekers.
Both days were miraculous in themselves. I arrived late to my own fundraiser. I thought I would arrive to some sad faces because, let’s face it, who rummages for a bargain at 8am on a Friday? I guess the answer to that is a lot of people. When I arrived at 10am, we had already pocketed a cool grand and were well on our way to another.
Our day continued to be blessed with beautiful weather and generous browsers. However, the real story came later that day, when a perfect stranger lent a very helpful hand. A man I had never met before heard what we were doing on the race and brought a donation. His van was full of almost new baby items. I was overwhelmed by his generosity, but he told me to hang tight because he would return with many more items.
