345 AM the alarm clock rings, well actually it whistles. I grab my coffee cup, a power bar, a duffle bag and I am out the door. I have gotten my morning routine to under 48 seconds, pretty impressive if you ask me. (I do brush my teeth, once arriving at the YMCA…do not worry)

4:29 AM- I pull into the pitch black YMCA parking lot. I then walk to the front door, and, more often than not, I wait in the bitter cold waiting for the degenerate janitor to remember to unlock the doors. It’s not so bad, I get to wait with a very nice lady named Johnny, who is approximately 4 years past ancient and couldn’t remember my name if her life depended on it. I feel safe and secure with her manning the front desk. Then its right to business, putting out lane lines, testing chemicals, before I sit and enjoy my wonderful coffee while watching the ONE person who swims at 5am. Let’s face it, 98% of the free world is still sleeping when the first YMCA patron hops into the pool.

6:32AM- There are officially no swimmers in the pool as this is the break between the die-hard 5AM swimmers and those who come in to swim before their 9-5 jobs. I then, enjoy a rather romantic sunrise by myself on the aquatics deck.
8:15AM- I throw on my black polo and khaki pants and head to my “real job.” There are patients waiting to be exercised, notes to be checked, evaluations to be filed, etc. Let me tell you….its thrilling.

2pm- Somebody had the brilliant idea to bring farm animals to the hospital. Why somebody would bring a pig to a rehab hospital, I have no idea. However, I am pretty glad they did. Barn Yard babies are probably the best perk of working there. That means once a month I get to play with a therapy pig, some kittens, one baby goat in a diaper and babysit the 4 ugliest chickens in the known universe.

5PM- I LOVE day light savings. It’s quitting time and its the perfect day to go for a run in the woods. A run in the woods is only a good idea when the maps are accurate and you don’t get lost. Sometimes though…getting lost is 98% of the adventure.
Sounds like an awesome Wednesday to me.
