I am now in Africa.  Where did the first 4 months of the race go?  Our squad spent last week in Nairobi, Kenya going through debrief.  I have a blog written about last week that when I get to wireless I will upload.
We actually arrived in Naruku, Kenya on Saturday.  It is the 4th largest city and home to Deliverance Church – Pipeline, our ministry for the month.  It is a young church and we will partnering with them for the month.
Church yesterday was a fun experience as they don't have a church building, just a partially closed in rough sketch of a pole barn.  You have burlap sacks stretched out providing wind breaks on a couple of walls and tin on about 1/2 the roof.  Lets just say we got pretty close when it started to rain as the people in the back moved forward to get out of the slight shower.
It is small church with maybe 20-30 people, but at least that many kids.  We had a blast dancing and interacting with the kids after church was over.  We will head out and do evangelism in the area surrounding the church beginning tomorrow.  The church is actually planted right next to an IDP community.  IDP stands for internally displaced people.  Basically, it is people from within Kenya that have been forced to move due to religious persecution, unrest, or war.  Right now, Kenya is involved in a war with factions on Somalia so some are from the border areas.  Others are people who were displaced following the contested elections in 2008.
We will learn more as we actually get involved in the community.
Our housing for the month is tight as our 3 guys are sharing a full-size bed that is sandwiched by walls on 1 side.  The 3rd guy actually decided to take the couch.  The four women are sharing a bunk bed with full-size beds so we are tight, but it is doable.  The next week will be an adventure as the 3 squad leaders are staying with us so we will most likely be 3 women per bed and the guys are trying to figure it out as there isn't much for floor space even to put someone on the floor.
We have another month without running water, at least at this point.  We bought the house a water pump so hopefully soon we will have running water.  That would be huge with 14 people sharing a 2 bedroom place.
Life continues to be an adventure.
