This past Saturday, I was able to be back in my element. There is an American family who has been in Thailand for almost 4 years who a few times a month comes into the slum community to put on a basketball clinic. It is about 90 minutes of shooting, passing, dribbling, and games for the kids and awesome that as a family they are working to give something back to their adopted home.
We were able to partner with the family and so I was back on the basketball court. It was a riot. Coaching a bunch of kids who speak no English reminded me of my first few months in the Czech Republic where I was coaching a girls team that was 10 and under. It was a lot of charades, mixed with tons of encouragement, and even more laughter. I had an absolute blast.
At the end of the time, I was able to share my testimony with the kids and express to them how much God really loves them. It was fun to again build into the community, offer a bright spot for many of the kids, and share about Jesus’s love. Plus, I got to play basketball in another country which was sweet!
