We were asked to write a blog about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip.  Here is what I’m expecting…

I am expecting…
-To have some sad and lonely days.
-To get sick a time or two.
-To deal with weariness and exhaustion, physically as well as mentally and emotionally.
-To get very home sick and miss my family and friends A LOT.
-To have ample opportunities to learn to get over my petty emotions and realize that no, its not all about me after all.
-To have my pride smashed a time or two, and having to learn about true grace and forgiveness (Asking forgiveness in particular).

Wow.  So far things aren’t looking too good.  But no worries.  I am one of those people who likes to get the bad news over with first so that I can move on and focus on the good news.  And really, all the difficult times are what will make the AMAZING time truly amazing!

I am expecting…
-That this will be the HARDEST thing I have ever done, and that I will be pushed to the breaking point physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
-To be stretched WAY out of my comfort zone.
 -T
o be brought to my knees in complete humbleness and awe before our God over and over again.
-To learn to see people through the eyes of Jesus, and have my heart broken as I understand what it truly means to love someone.
-To have my sterotypical Christian ideas and beliefs challenged and beaten to death.  I know I have learned to rely on the ideas about who God is and what He is capable of that have been pounded into my head since I was young way too much.  Its time to think outside that box!
-To experience FREEDOM!  Freedom from the materialism, apathy and desire to “fit in” that has sunk its claws into our society.  Freedom from the lies the enemy uses to drag me down.  Freedom to be the person I was created to be!
-To build lasting and life-long friendships.
-To laugh a lot and have FUN!
-To have lots of crazy adventures!
-To be awed by the beauty of creation.

As a side note, I also have a few hopes.  I am hoping that I will get to ride an elephant and a camel, that I will meet someone who really does live in a tree house, that we will see a waterfall and play in it, and that we will dance around a campfire with a native tribe who wear grass skirts and have cool hats.
