I first heard about the World Race a little over a month ago. Now, the next fourteen months of my life are on a completely new path and will likely be the most exciting, difficult, heart-wrenching, eye-opening, love filled months of my previous 22 years. God is full of surprises! and I am so thankful for that.

I have been a "Christian" since I was four (what little kid doesn't think communion looks like a nice snack!), but have more recently decided to let God really have control over my life. College is a time of growth for most students, and definitely has been for me. I have become aware that the more I try to lead my life, the more muddled it grows, but allowing the Lord to lead brings order and peace…and excitement! I grew up thinking most of Christianity is a little boring, but the past three months of my life have been anything but boring. They have been a whirlwind of change and adventure. God has shown me so much about myself, about Himself, about others and about the world. I still mess up (a lot!), but He is steadfast and faithful. I have spent a lot of my life living in fear. fears of rejection. fears of failure. But I can do that no longer! God is so much bigger than that. so much bigger than me. I take courage in knowing that when I am weak, He is strong. He has proven this to me over and over and I am so excited to have the opportunity to travel the world and share His overwhelming love, forgiveness, and hope!

For those of you who have never heard of World Race (remember, that was me a month ago), it is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries around the world. The August 2011 team and I will be going to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, China, Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. On this journey, we will be partnering with local ministries and churches to work in orphanages, minister to women and children trapped in the web of human trafficking, preach the Gospel, and love.
