Hi everyone! So this is me. . .

I was born and raised in beautiful Greenville, South Carolina, the daughter of two amazing Christian parents and an older brother, Jake.  I also have a cat named Peanut.  I am living in Anderson (a neighboring county to Greenville), where I just finished my second year of teaching fourth grade at Mount Lebanon Elementary School.  I just finished moving out of my classroom yesterday and will be moving back home next month.  When a teacher goes on the World Race in January, it means quitting in June.  I have mixed emotions about closing this chapter of my life, but I know the time is right to open a new one.

A few interesting tidbits about me:
  • Most people think I’m shy and quiet, but they have no idea.
  • I’ve never broken a bone.
  • I collect water from places that I visit (hmm, I’m going to have to figure that one out for WR).
  • When I was little, I wanted to do special effects for movies when I grew up.
  • I’m a morning person.
  • When I grow up, I want to write a book.

I was fortunate enough to be raised in a loving Christian family – a family that has supported me through all the years and all the ups and downs of life.  I am thankful for their support in me trekking off to the ends of the Earth!

I began playing the harp when I was 13, and to my surprise, it has developed into an incredibly rewarding and exciting career.  I have been blessed with many opportunities through music, including the chance to study music in Italy for a semester my senior year.  I graduated from Furman University in 2007 with a music degree, and finished a program of study in Elementary Education the following year, although Furman didn’t see it necessary to give me a second degree (I’m not bitter).   Now I get the best of both the teaching and the music world!  One of the hardest parts of being gone for a year is going to be leaving my harp behind. 🙁

Okay, so here are a few things I like. . .

  • reading
  • church
  • my cat
  • my family
  • coffee
  • laughing
  • exercise
  • sunshine
  • sleeping
  • the beach
  • HGTV
  • traveling

Here are a few of the things I dislike. . .

  • being late
  • negative people
  • seafood (I know. . . )
  • being cold

I am beside myself with excitement about the World Race! This is something I have felt called to do for a LONG time, but I’ve made up a lot of excuses to NOT do (more on that later).  I can’t wait to meet the people I will be spending 11 months with, and I can’t wait to begin this journey and make a difference in the lives of people all over the world!  I expect many things along the way.

to walk by faith

to get out of my comfort zone

to meet incredible people

to be uncomfortable

to see things that most people never will in their lifetime

to miss my family and friends

to learn more about myself in 11 months than in the last 25 years

to be surprised

to throw my plans out the window

to see God work like never before

HERE GOES!
