Luke 9:3-4 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town.
One of my struggles with going on the World Race has been…1 month in each country…is that really helping anybody? Aren’t we just a bunch of fluttery peace-lovin’ hippie types trying to change the world? We barely have enough space in our packs for our belongings…what can we possibly bring to the ministry “table” that will help these people? I came back from a recent trip and had a chance to think through this some more…and even if our team hadn’t brought a single craft item, or article of clothing, I KNOW God brought us there for that specific purpose to LOVE these people well. Our trip leader said something to the effect that the most important thing we could bring was ourselves. Of course I had a Miss Piggy moment and said, “Moi”?
But then I was encouraged….
There were a whole lot of people in the bible that thought God had the wrong guy or girl…and they went on to do some pretty awesome things. The more I’ve been blog-stalkin’ current racers…I’m seeing how they are able to promote or network ministries or raise funds for specific causes…and that excites me…THAT seems worth it.
