This month (February), my team and I are working with Destiny Ministries International (DMI) in Balaka, Malawi. DMI is a Christian church founded by Apostle Andrew Kettings.
Apostle Andrew has planted 36 other DMI’s throughout Malawi. To say this man is busy, is an understatement.
He is truly [kingdom building].
Coming into this month I was not sure what to expect. The list of possible ministries we would be partaking in for DMI was countless.
We could be working with women, children, hospitals, prisons, door to door evangelism, healing or casting out demons (what?) are just to name a [few].
I immediately felt overwhelmed and under-qualified. I was nervous. I was scared. I immediately felt lies from the enemy, “You don’t know what you are doing. Why are you even here? Go home. You know you want to.”
I was excited because this month was going to be so different than month one, but I felt [very] under-qualified. I was {not} alone. Some members of my team heard the same lies.
Almost immediately we began speaking truth over ourselves. Although we may not feel qualified for this, we all possess the very thing that qualifies us to do anything: The Holy Spirit .
I have preached, teached and led more bible studies this month than ever before in my life. Let me rephrase that. He has preached, teached and led more bible studies [through me] this month than ever before in my life.
It is truly amazing how when you completely surrender your doubts, your fears, your insecurities; that is when He shows up.
God has taught me so much through my time here in Balaka. The people are amazing. They have taught me more in three weeks than I could ever teach them. These are people who have truly devoted their lives to serving our Father. They live and breathe each moment pleasing the Lord.
It is a sight to see.
It really got me thinking about how I live my life in a constant state of distraction back home. Whether it’s technology or the need to be busy all the time; I live my life in a constant excuse for not having [enough time] to spend with the Lord.
Everything else is a priority. Netflix binges. Dinners with friends. Nail appointments. Sleeping in.
All of these things are taking away from making time with my Father a priority.
So I ask you, what is distracting you? You may have similar distractions to mine, but yours could also be completely different. Politics? Exercise? Cleaning? Whatever it may be, we all have them.
So I challenge you to identify your distraction and [write it down].
For one week, take the time you would typically spend doing whatever distracts you (Netflix binges, politics, dinners, cleaning, etc.) and spend that time with Jesus [outside of your daily quiet time].
(Maybe you don’t have a quiet time and that’s okay. Make [this] time your quiet time. Quiet time simply means to {be still} in the presence of the Lord. It is time set aside each day to spend time with the Creator. To pray to Him. To talk to Him. To listen to Him. To read His word. There is no wrong or right way to have a quiet time. It looks different for everyone.)
Then take that paper and write down the things God is teaching you during that time. My prayer is that He teaches you so much, that you run out of room!
He {sacrificed} His life for us, are you willing to {sacrifice} an hour or two for Him?
“Ask and it will be given;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened.”
Matthew 7:7
