10. Azungu (white people) or Azungu bo! (Hi white people!) are terms of endearment that you will hear everywhere you go. And I mean everywhere.
9. People will literally stop what they are doing, to stare at you when you walk/drive/bike by. Is something on my face? No I’m just a white person.
8. Malawi is truly the warm heart of Africa. They weren’t kidding.
7. Maze (corn) is grown everywhere. Literally. Everywhere. In the middle of the street or next to a heap of trash.
6. Everybody loves nsima. It is the staple food of Malawi. Everybody, except me.
5. “Zikomo” means “Thank you.”
4. I can do anything when I trust in the Lord. Climb a mountain. Preach a sermon. Even pray healing.
3. If you’re not dancing during worship, you might as well be taking a nap. Malawians know how to worship. And dance.
2. Laughter and love is contagious. These people are the most joyful, people I have ever been around.
1. I am at home when I am in Malawi. I have been adopted into the family at Destiny Ministries and I will never forget the impact they had on my life.
Month 2 in Malawi was amazing. God showed me what it was like to wholeheartedly trust Him. He revealed himself to me in so many different facets. One of the biggest ways was through the people of Balaka. These people were so loving. So happy. So joyful. They taught me not to put God in a box, that He is a big God who can do anything. They taught me to be thankful, to rejoice in Him. To take rest in His beauty. They taught me that worship and prayer and thanksgiving can look so many different ways. But most of all they taught me to praise Him unashamed and to trust in His goodness.
Thank you Destiny Ministries. Thank you Balaka. Thank you Malawi. You will always hold a precious place in my heart.
