Part of our ministry in Rwanda this month is going house to house to visit with people.

Although it may sound mundane, it’s sometimes the most adventurous part of the day. You never know what is behind the metal gates and brick walls. The anticipation is indescribable. But at the end of the day, the person behind that gate is exactly who was meant to be.

Today, that person was Jean.

We knocked on the gate and the house boy, Jean, answered the door.

In Africa, a “house boy” is a boy who lives and works at the house. It can be a very lonely job. They see their family as often as once a year to once every three years. A house boy is not treated like family. Often times, they aren’t even allowed to eat at the same table as the family they work for.

Jean was on the road to success. He is very intelligent, and with the right education could get a very good job. But after some financial roadblocks, and family problems he was forced to drop out of school and take up the life of a house boy.

He is the oldest of seven children, so the mere $23.00 a month he earns goes right to his family.

He is trapped.

I have been learning a lot about faith and love in action. Prayer is awesome, but sometimes the miracle you are praying for is yourself. Sometimes, God puts us in situations as an answer to prayer.

Crazy, huh?

Maybe we are the miracle Jean has been praying for since he was forced to drop out of school.

To complete his last three years of school, he only needs about $1,100. That’s not a lot of money for an education that could change the lives of a family of nine.

My team’s goal is to raise the money before we leave Rwanda at the end of this month. Below is a video of Jean telling a little bit of his story. I would love to go back to that house and make a new video of him receiving the money he needs for his future.

Jean never asked us for money, only prayers. So let’s be an answer to that prayer.
