These past few days we’ve been going to the nursing home here in Medellín. In the states that usually means for the elderly when they need assisted living or when they can no longer take care of themselves. But here it is also for people who have special needs. Either their families cannot afford to care for them and their needs or they no longer have family that are able to take care of them anymore. We sang to them, with them and they wanted to have a dance party with us. There was not really a structure that we had with them much we were just there to be with them. One thing that we did do is we brought paper and crayons, a puzzle, and some play-doh just as an activity thats different for them. I sat and did play-doh and just listened to a gentleman tell me a story (even though it was all in Spanish and I had no clue what he was saying). They were all just so excited to have guests to come and see them. Another thing I’ve done is go up to Manantiales and deliver food bags and make a map for the future so they have an easier time delivering the bags. We also did a VBS with a group from YWAM that was also here at the same time as us for the first week. They lead the stories and songs and we lead the different games that we did with the kids. One of the favorites was swim fishy swim, one of the girls I really made a connection with. Her name is Shantel, by the time we got to playing games she was asking for a piggyback ride while we were playing and just getting to love on her for the three days of the kids camp was amazing. As I am wrapping up month one it was an amazing month a great start to the next 11 months. I also cannot wait to see what the next ten months look like for myself and my team.
