This week I chose to do something a little different for one of my blogs. During one of my team’s worship times we asked the Lord for a Psalm and then re-wrote it in our own words. Psalm 101 has always been one of my favorites, and re-writing it gave the Lord an opportunity to continue speaking over me what I’ve been walking through with him over the past few weeks. I Will Walk with Integrity is the original Psalm in the ESV translation, and I Will Wait for You is my rendition of the same Psalm.
My version of Psalm 101 builds off and incorporates the original to bring a different perspective, and make it more applicable to my life. The Lord has been so good to me. In the blessings that he’s given and the fire that burned away more of myself to reveal more of him, he remains good and I know he will always be. But, despite both the gifts and the trials he’s handed me, I’m still waiting for him. I’m still waiting for the day when he comes back to me and calls me his own– his good and faithful servant, his creation made in the image of himself, his bride made pure by his own sacrifice. I’m waiting for Heaven to come down to Earth and for the High King to reign over all. I will always testify to his goodness even when I can’t understand it, but I don’t want my waiting to be complacent. So as I wait I will continue to build kingdom culture, I will continue to bring Heaven to Earth by living like Christ, I will continue to grow in who he made me to be, and I will wait for him.
I Will Walk with Integrity
I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
To you, O Lord, I will make music.
I will ponder the way that is blameless.
Oh when will you come to me?
I will walk with integrity of heart within my house;
I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.
A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil.
Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy.
Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.
I will look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me;
He who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me.
No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house;
No one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes.
Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land,
Cutting off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord.
I Will Wait for You
I will sing of your faithfulness and remain thankful,
For you only Lord, will I sing
You have robed me in white–
Pure and blameless I am wrapped in your blinding grace.
I am your bride waiting for you– oh when will you come to me?
My heart is for you only, I am solely yours.
I will not invest myself in the worthlessness of this Earth,
You are all I want.
My physical toil turns to dust in my hands,
It falls through my fingers and clings only to itself,
Its unfaithfulness is far from me.
Because of your love for me I will stand up for those who can’t stand for themselves,
I will be a voice for the voiceless, and I will fight for the weak,
I will not tolerate injustice.
I will seek knowledge and understanding from those above me, and I will walk in humility.
My house will be filled with your favor, deception and lies have no place there.
Morning by morning I will destroy my flesh,
Cutting away each piece of myself that is not of you,
I never want to be a finished project– there’s growth in the waiting,
I will wait for you.
