Come Thou, fount of every blessing

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace

So goes the opening line of “Come Thou Fount.” A beautiful modern arrangement of which, by King’s Kaleidoscope I’ve linked here.

One of my favorite things about life and humanity is music. A huge blessing I received right before I left the US to begin the Race was a mandolin to take with me. (I was also hugely blessed with a team that is patient as I’m learning this 8 stringed beauty.)

As a musician, I love relating things of music to things of Life in general. And vice versa. My heart received deep truth from this line of  “Come Thou Fount”:

Tune my heart to sing Thy Grace.

Just like when tuning an instrument, when strings are stretched and tightened, or when breath is breathed through while an embouchure is altered, the tuning of a heart causes discomfort at time.

Discomfort.

The strings have not yet settled into their new length. But, the ensuing notes resound so pure and sweet, due to the gentle perseverance of the tuner and the resilience of the instrument. Still, as an instrument needs to be retuned after use, sometimes after only one song, the tuning of our hearts is not a one-time occurrence, but a persistently continual process.

May the hearts of all who seek Him truly be tuned to sing His grace.

Streams of mercy never ceasing

call for songs of loudest praise.

From my heart,
