Psalm 139 has ministered such truth and comfort to me over the past several weeks. In it, David writes of the intimacy of our Father in knowing us. Seeing and perceiving us. Desiring us.

The thought and knowledge of His pursuit of me is downright overwhelming.

A couple of weeks ago my eyes got stuck like a skipping record on verses 17-18:

“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!

How great is the sum of them!

If I should count them,

they would be more in number than the grains of sand;

When I awake, I am still with You.

Imagine lying on your bed at night, eyelids heavy and body in dire need of sleep. You think of the preciousness and greatness of your God and then your mind fogs from exhaustion. You fall asleep, but as you do so, you are recounting the goodness and the nearness of the Lord; being concurrently overwhelmed and at peace with those thoughts. Hours of slumber pass and then you awake. Opening your eyes, you pick up right where you left off – “Lord, how precious are your thoughts to and of me!”

For, though you slept, the Father just waited for you to come out of resting in Him in slumber to resting in Him in waking hours.

“…When I am awake, I am still with You.”

I pray you feel His nearness and His deep longing for you.

Oh, how He longs for you.

He yearns for you to be aware of Him and His presence – He says, “I Am still with you.”
