Hello there!

My name is Erika Rae Clark.  I just turned 28 years old and I live in Annapolis, MD with the love of my life, my husband Jaimie.  He will be deployed while I am on the race, so finding ways to communicate will be really, really important to us!

Here is our wedding slideshow if you are into wedding pictures: http://homepage.mac.com/chphoto/LitchfieldClark/index.html

Cronin Hill Photography is amazing!

He is so handsome! 🙂

and our enormous dog (a Newfie) named Carbide.

I am the oldest of three girls who are the greatest sisters a gal could hope for.  Both super smart and so very different.  Erin, the middle one, has a degree in English as well as being a tri-athlete (I’m not kidding), and the little nugget Elyssa has a degree in math and in addition to the awesome work that she does at her software company, she is thinking of starting her own organizing business!  They are both awesome.

(The will probably kill me for putting this picture in here, but I thnk it is cute and funny.  It is from Christmas a few years ago when I bought them both some new pjs.  They decided to have a race of who could get into them, over all of their clothes, first.  It was very “them” of them.)
My mother is very loving and my father is very sensitive.  I am enjoying getting to know them both as adults.
I have been a Christian for just over 7 years now.  Before giving my life to Christ, I was Wiccan.  Interestingly, my (now) husband was a Satanist and our friendship began over a mutual annoyance of Christians, and we liked to make fun of them.  An awesome woman named Mama Susie kept loving on me even when I made fun of everything that she believed in-and eventually my heart just melted and I realized that I loved God, too!  The hubbs and I had lost touch for 5 years, and in the meantime he had gotten saved as well, and even though we were on different continents at the time (he was in Germany and I was in Columbus OH) we knew that we had to be together.  We got married one year to the day that he left the Air Force and moved out to Ohio to be with me.  It is my favorite love story because it has God’s fingerprints all over it-and I would be happy to share more with anyone who is interested.

I love my church family!  We are pretty unconventional, which I dig.  We meet in a movie theater and we all work together to make it run.  Our pastor, Donnie Reynolds, is pretty over the top, and the hubbs and I love hearing what he will come up with next.

From the time I was a wee nugget, justice has been very important to me.  I have always stood up for the underdog and looked out for people who I perceived to be forgotten.  There are plenty of things that I don’t do well- but I included this bit of something positive because I think that it is my favorite thing about myself.  “Seek Justice, Correct Oppression”!  Unfairness and injustice just pierces my heart in a way that almost nothing else does.  It is an honor to be included on this trip where we will be living out Isaiah 1:17.
I have been working in an anti-human trafficking non profit for the past year, as I have awaited the results of my medical board from the Navy which will be kicking me out (bum knee).  This past year has been a time of incredible growth and change-most of which was unpleasant, but it turns out, very necessary.  I am very passionate about the cause of human rights violations in general and human trafficking in specific, and love to educate people about the various issues involved so that we can all see what is going on around us.  Awareness is key!

Okay now for the random facts:
I am a social introvert-meaning that I do well in social situations, but feel the most recharged when I have time to myself or just with my husband.
I am a tactile learner and love to work with my hands, which is reflected in my hobbies of photography (darkroom work is very “hands” oriented), knitting (I REALLY love to knit- I will be bringing at least one project in my pack on the race), spinning (on a spinning wheel, not spinning the exercise!), make up artistry, and cooking.
I am currently a seminary student.
I try to keep my life focused on God without being “religious”.
I am sensitive.
I like to use “big spoons and forks” for dinner, but “small spoons and forks” for dessert because it makes it seem like I have more dessert since I need to make more trips
I love my family more than anything besides God.
I have deployed for the military but have never been on a missions trip.
I love people and understanding them-and trying to make them FEEL understood.
Hospitality is exceedingly important to me both in my home and outside of it.
I don’t like shoes so I wear flip flops almost year round
cough syrup makes me sneeze
real maple syrup is very important to me!
I am a spleunker
Love Starbursts Fave Reds.  They are pretty much the best thing ever.
