Beautiful Darkness

Haiti is one of the most beautiful yet dark places that I have traveled to. GOD’s beautiful creation can be seen everywhere you turn. There are tall cascading palm trees that reach up into heaven, luscious green mountains that engulf the landscape and houses and buildings that remind you of the crème de la crème of Spanish architecture. GOD has topped off the natural beauty of Haiti by blessing the land with warm, beautiful and friendly people.

However underneath all this beauty you can feel the sadness and darkness that encompasses this country.  According to a story told to us by a fellow missionary, in 1806 the ruler of Haiti dedicated the country to the Devil for a period of 200 years and you can feel the spiritual warfare between GOD and the Devil that has been going on ever since. In the people’s eyes you can see the hurt and pain that comes from not having a personal love relationship with GOD. This is a country where being a witchcraft doctor can be a lucrative occupation.

In the midst of the darkness, you can feel Jesus’ love, light and presence. You can feel His pure love and deep desire to enter the hearts and lives of the Haitian people.  The longer I stay here the more I see why so many missionaries come to Haiti… this is a country that is crying out for JESUS love and HIS gift of salvation.

This month our team has focused on dramas and skits to show orphans, kids and adults Jesus’ life changing power of love and forgiveness. It has been an amazing month so far that has allowed us the opportunity to pray with people in the street, talk, worship, pray and fellowship with Christians from different ethnicities and life experiences and just be bathed in Christ’s unconditional love.

Friends and family please pray that the people of Haiti have a deep yearning to have an intimate relationship with the trinity of GOD, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Below are some of my favorite pictures from Haiti so far.

Here is a trivia question . What are the English translations for the Creole words JZ and Ashanti?
I will post the answer on my next blog.

Madeline I’ve been thinking about you since I’ve been in Haiti. .

Thank you for your prayers and financial support… I’m only $4500 from being fully funded for this trip. It warms my heart to think of all my friends, family and church members who have prayed for me, given financially and just left encouraging comments on my blog.
I LOVE YOU !!!!
