Today was our first real day of ministry. I wasn’t feeling too well until I chased down a vendor selling some fruit from Thailand, then I was good to go.

The girls went to the childrens’ hosptial and broke into two teams.  mine prayed over about 6 children and their mothers as well as for the staff- It was incredibly emotional. we met one woman, Marcella, who was a very talkative 24 year old mother.  Her 1 1/2 year old boy, Ferdinand, has leukemia, but he was one of the most playful babies I have ever met.  She said he is usually afraid of strangers and terrified of the nurses but he loved us.  After a few minutes he crawled to the edge of the bed and was reaching up for me to hold him.   As we left the hospital we saw Marcella reading her son the copy of the New Testament we had just given her.

outside, our men had been walking around downtown meeting random people and handing out information about the Christian Rehab center we are working with.  One girl, Baleria, was watching her mom and little sister’s things as they washed windows at stop lights- their only source of income.  Shawn, Dustin and Oscar, our Teen Challenge staff partner, talked to her for a long time and told her about Jesus- and she prayed to receive Christ.

This has been a day beyond anything we could have imagined, and the sun hasn’t even gone down.  Tonight we are leading worship for the guys at Teen Challenge and Dusting and Shawn are each going to give a small talk. This weekend we will be playing sports with the neighborhood, putting on a “drama” at a church, giving a few more talks and testimonies, handing out food and visiting an orphanage.  I can’t wait to see the curve balls and miracles God is going to throw at us.

The girls crammed into the back of the truck on the way to Teen Challenge- it’s surprisingly really cold in San Salvador rite now.
