Of course we ended debrief with a bang- Shannon’s hip and AJ’s feet getting healed, spending 45 minutes in silence as a group just soaking in the presence of God, staying up late talking about the Bible and religion, waking up early to pack everything up and leave again, cramming 15 people in a little hotel room to hang out, eat and watch a little tv… and then we got on a bus… for 22 hours. Well it was actually two buses but still, we left Thailand at 9pm on Tuesday and got to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 7pm on Wednesday. Dear inventor of sleeping pills- bless you.
After Mac’s team and our team finally made it to our contact’s church together we sat down for a little debrief session and one of the first things the pastor said to us was, “You will be split into two teams- one to the East and one staying here in the West. You decide now, who is going where?” Oh, so we aren’t staying together? We have to decide right now? Ok uhhh let us pray for 5 minutes.
We were feeling West and Mac’s team was feeling East so it worked out pretty well. I didn’t even bother unpacking- after our team meetings I grabbed my sleeping pad and a blanket and crawled upstairs, found an empty spot on the floor and passed out. This morning we had an hour long train ride and got off at our stop ready to start some ministry… too bad the only living creature there waiting for us was a rooster crowing like crazy. Did I mention we didn’t have a working cell phone? And the payphone was busted? Some guy eventually had pity on us and lent us a phone and we got in touch with the pastor who lived just a five minute walk down the street.
Well here we are, living in this awesome community, sleeping in this random church and visiting people’s homes to pray with them and have “food fellowship”. This, by the way, has become one of my new favorite phrases. This week we are supposed to put on a few kid’s programs, go pray over an island, attend church, go to an elderly home and do a lot of prayer walking. And next week? Ha, we haven’t gotten that far yet. Maybe going to stay at a Chinese church, maybe not. Maybe going back to KL, who knows? Our contact said he would figure it out and let us know. Honestly, I love living week to week, it keeps everything so exciting! Adventures in Mission? Ya that sounds about right.
