¿lepsoG?

Erica, what are you doing? What have you sold out to? Are you being brainwashed? Did you join a cult? Did you go crazy? What are you talking about???

I say that everything I am doing is because of the Gospel…. Ok, so what is the Gospel?

Campus Outreach (my amazing college ministry) explains it like this…

Everyone in life is searching for purpose security and fulfillment, and people try and fill this void with anything they can find (friends, money, music, sports etc.) but the only thing that can eternally satisfy people is God.  Sin has completely separated us from God, it’s as if He is on one cliff and we are on another, with an insurmountable gap in-between.  But God loves us, and wants a relationship with us, so He sent Jesus to live the completely perfect life, and die on the cross for our sins.  Jesus, the only one who never deserved to die or suffer, had the wrath of God poured out on Him to pay the price for all sin.  Now, if we accept Jesus and ask Him into our hearts and to be Lord of our lives, He bridges the gap between us and God.

One day at training camp it was explained like this…

In the beginning of creation God and man had the perfect relationship, but one day, that relationship was completely severed.  The whole reason God created man was to have a relationship with Him, so this separation was the biggest heartbreak of all time.  Because of His deep love for man, Jesus came, died on the cross, and opened up a way to restore the relationship.  Now, because of Jesus, we can have a relationship with God again, the greatest and most satisfying loving relationship of all time.

It isn’t an irrelevant ancient concept, it isn’t a set of rules, it isn’t a ladder to climb, it isn’t about measuring up or being good enough- you don’t wash your hands before you get in the shower, you get in the shower because you are dirty, and you let the waters clean you. If you think it’s a crazy, stifling concept then you’ve got is backwards.  It isn’t an irrelevant incomprehensible foreign word, it’s the Gospel.

“…God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men- the testimony given in its proper time…”
