Christianity does not always have to be boring.
In fact, it was never meant to be.
Often times we make it boring because we feel that for some reason Jesus was a prude or something of that nature.
It is quite unfortunate because I have never experienced an adventure quite like what I am on right now.
Everyday I go to sleep with something new under my belt.
There is some crazy experience or some person that I meet that teaches me something.
God continues to reveal Himself to me, and that is anything but boring.
This week in Nicaragua has been a joy.
We have been doing ministry in the barrios, going door to door and ministering to people individually.
I fear door to door ministry in the
United States, but the people here love to invite us in, sit us down, and talk for hours.
It is great!
The people here are so hungry for love, hungry for attention, hungry for somebody to hear their stories.
But yesterday, Scott and I did something different.
Earlier in the week, I met a guy named Alvaro.
He is a teenager who taught himself English, and actually speaks very well.
He also skateboards.
So we set a time to meet him and to skate with him.
Alvaro shows up displaying his new bright red skateboard that he just bought.
His buddies brought a rail to the center plaza, and for the next two hours, we became the center of attention in the plaza.
It was a lot of fun!
I used to be a skate bum, I spent 4 years skateboarding with my best friends.
And this brought back all of those memories.
We even got kicked out of skating in front of a church.
I really wanted to “stick it to tha man” and just keep skating, but figured it might not be the best way to minister to these kids.
Alvaro and I played a game of S-K-A-T-E, which is the skateboarding equivalent of playing HORSE in basketball.
Scott and I took turns talking to Alvaro and just hangin out with him.
More than anything we were just having fun with him.
At one point Scott and I were both able to sit down and discuss with him why we came to Nicaragua and what we were doing.
So we shared with him, and he was very open to talking about God.
So we asked him if he had ever asked Jesus to be his savior.
After thinking about it, he couldn’t come up with an actual time when he had invited Jesus into his heart.
To him it was more like a cultural thing.
Because the name of Jesus was everywhere he figured he was covered.
But we explained that it had to be his decision, and with gladness he made his faith his own!
Alvaro and I continued to skate around and have fun together, it made me really want to buy a skateboard and take it around the world with me.
How fun would it be to reach out to all the skateboarders of the world!
Come on church, lets have a little fun out there!
No more bored Christians.
Im down for board Christians*!
