How long is your day?
Do the days go by super fast? Do you ever wonder where the week went? Mondays do seem to happen all to quickly. If so I remember those weeks and periods too. I can relate to the feeling that time is slipping away and you just want to slow it down.
On the race a common saying around the squad is “A day feels like a week, and a week seems like a day.”
When we go to lay our head down at night, breakfast feels like an eternity ago. It left me wondering why? Is it tent camping and waking up at 5 am? No, I used to camp and I wake up at 5 am at home all the time. Is it because we spend all our time outside? No, I used to play outside as a kid all day or take all day bike rides and those days went by fast too. Could it be Africa? Might be. Maybe it is a southern hemisphere thing.
Then God reveal this scripture to me.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 2 Peter 3:8
Hmm…that is quite similar to our race saying. Then it dawned on me how we spend our days.
We spend most of our day in worship, prayer, and seeking God’s plan for the day. One of our longest feeling days wasn’t a 14 hour bus ride but rather when we literally prayed healing for 4 hours. A Passport member (Passport is a program similar to the World Race, both through AIM) was in a bad car accident one morning. We met the Passport team who have been serving in Malawi for a couple weeks before we arrived and all of us are staying at the same place. She was taken to the hospital with a concussion, and we interceded for her all afternoon. We prayed, sang songs, and just sought the Lord for her healing.
The more we get into His plan in His presence the longer and more fruitful the days are. God really does make the sun stand still. God intervenes so much throughout our days, and His timing is so perfect.
If your days are whizzing by fast and you can’t get a hold of them, I would recommend resting in His presence. Make time for your Savior and He will make time for you. While at work pray for your coworkers, pray over the next business meeting, pray for God to speak through you at the PTA meeting, pray blessing over the people you are doing laundry for, pray a blessing over the streets of the city as you drive around. Keep focused on God, and enjoy the long days in His presence.
Be Bold to lead prayer time in your family, make it a priority.
Be Intentional to seek God throughout the day.
Update: The Passport member is doing well and recovering nicely.
