Capital Community Church blew my mind and forever changed by the unique experience!
We got invited to go there through a lady who came by Roundabout to make a donation. Having one of the two phones on the team I was suddenly thrown into a conversation about how she wanted to take our team to church. We quickly exchanged phone numbers and before I knew it Colleen had left.
I was a tad confused but grateful for how Colleen took us in as one her own and determined to get us to church and have us over for lunch afterwards! Huge blessing!
Anyways we arrived at this church that met at an art convention center. Going into China I thought all churches met in house. I was shocked to find a church that had seating for probably around 600 people and it was FULL! And everyone for the most part spoke English. Later we found out it is called an International Passport church so China does not mind how large it is along as mainlanders do not attend.
Up to this point in the Race, I have been exposed to a variety of different churches throughout Africa and Europe. In those settings you get fully immersed in one culture, which is awesome and rewarding.
At Capital Community Church was like the ultimate melting pot of Christians from all around the world in one service. Do to the variety of backgrounds from the staff and volunteers there you got an unique experience. From the worship to the general layout of the service it was one of kind. Also being that majority of people there are expats it is an ever changing family of believers. Everyone has gone through the initial shock of China and can relate to not being at home, so they made home there. The welcoming environment was evident as they focused on new families coming and allowing parting families to share during the service.
I found myself at the end of the service talking with people from South Africa, Australia, Germany, Brazil, and Canada all at once right there in Beijing.
It was like a faint foreshadowing of heaven as all the nations gather around to praise and worship Jesus Christ!
